When it comes to ladders and tournaments ANet pretty much holds all the cards in the deck, unless people staged some massive boycott of ANet tournaments and the official ladder itself, but that's not going to happen. All that we, and by we I mean anyone who cares about ladders and tourneys, can do right now is sit on our thumbs and sigil farm or run smurf guilds, since ANet has made a point off telling it's community *absolutely nothing* about the future of the ladder or the supposed tournament(s) comming later this fall.

Without it, it's harder for third-party groups to maintain tournaments (it's much easier when you have a tourney admin watching the entire match), so it forces most people to wait until ANet gets their stuff togeather. GG.

We were thinking about allowing a third party member in the 5v5 battles.. but it would be to much of a conflict with the other team trying to get a target off, and they end up attacking him
(Also with similar names / same proffesions as the people playing = unfair for other team)
But within time, if the ladder becomes big enough, then we will have enough potential to actually send an email out to ANet, that would be considered.

Added - Observers :: I do not think that Anet will add an observer slot to Guild Wars, because people in Observer would be able to see where the enemies are at all times (which would be unfair for both teams).

You misunderstood me. I'm talking about the upcomming addition of an Observer Mode to the game, where other players can watch delayed (as in a few minutes behind) GvG matches. No offense, but the fact that you didn't know that (I think it was in a Fansite Friday a while ago, and that was all we heard) just goes to show how bad of a job ANet has done in regards to informing the community about what to expect in supposed tournament that's comming up soon (so ANet says). I don't know about anyone else, but ANet better have one whopper of a supprise in store considering how quiet they've been about it.

Wow... what a read!! I use to play UT2K4 so I am framiliar with how sites like the GWL works and think it is a kewl idea. I thought this might have been something saying one was up. I haven't played GW too long yet, but would like to see a site like TWL and GWL put up some ladders. I have never seen a game provide, let alone maintain, a good ladder or tournament system. I saw you mentioned that the ladder wouldn't open till you had 20 teams, what is up with that? As soon as a Guild joins, they should be able to start fighting for that top position. I see ur site has all FPS, which those gamers would know what this is all about usually. But unless any of these Guilds have played FPS like my fav UT2K4 They will probably hesitate joining especially if it is a sit and wait to compete deal. Just a few of my noobish Guild War thoughts... I will probably drop a not on my thoughts on ur site too Vax and see how it compares to past ones I have been on.

Maybe I'm just beating a dead horse here, but I seriously believe that once observer mode is added into the game there there will be at least a few groups that will at least try to run unofficial tournaments and ladders. I say more power to them. Unofficial tournaments do have their benefits. For example, a lot of people are complaining about the 18+ age legal mumbo jumbo regarding the current official tournament. Third-party tournaments could help keep younger players in the competitive loop, so to speak. Unofficial leagues and tournaments can cater to players and guilds that aren't, for whatever reason, satisfied with the way ANet runs their show, and I think that is something that needs to be in the game if there are enough people to warrant it.

I almost forgot about this thread with classes and all… lol bummer
Anyway, I think it would hold water easily. FPS gamers like me for unreal tournament that look for additional competition (and the right to talk smack to teams on the ladder) know what it is like and how it works. Sites like global warfighter keep the game going and add popularity to the game. Like I mentioned before, I have never seen a game provide or maintain, a good ladder or tournament system. A site like gwl works for the community to make it better, and like he said, cater to the needs of the player to make it fun and inviting.
Ohh, looking again over this, as for vax advertising his site, where else would be a better place… come on guys! (I usually root for the underdog! LoL) If it were about something outside of guild wars or other crap unrelated, then yah, I would agree. But this is offering something to the game without changing anything! No different if it was about a kewl new mod or some support site for guild wars or something.
Good deal you dropped the 20 requirement, I hated to have to wait and play on a new ladder or for new games in general. I look at it like this, if you signed up before me and joined a ladder, you better be ready to defend your position because that is where I want to be!! As for the observer mode, I really don’t think that would make a difference except for maybe shout-casted matches, which are usually reserved for top ranking established teams. Enough of my rambeling... Zzzz Zzzzz

-1st paragraph
Im sure that you could talk smack in game just with any regular GvG, but yes there are the forums for that :P
Just waiting on you guys to sign up and start hating each other to a level never before seen
-2nd paragraph
Need the communities help to overcome being the "Under Dog"
This website is yes for guild wars information, and that is what this topic is for (guild wars )
-3rd Paragraph
Yes we dropped the 20 player minimum; for purposes that would gain activity on the ladder (considering the fact that everyone just wants to jump into competition)
Im unsure about the observer mode atm... If there is ever going to be one GWL wont be able to control that fact

Just a quick question: How are you going to organise a GW ladder competition without the ability to match up competing guilds?

There is a ladder.. teams sign up
There are the follow ladders
Ameican .. 8v8 5v5
European .. 8v8 5v5
Korean .. 8v8 5v5
International .. 8v8 5v5
They challenge one another formally, and the results go up for the entire world to see...
I did not really understand your question that much, if I was mistaken please go into more detail with your questions

Guilds can no longer send named challenges as per the update before the official laddder reset. How are the teams in your ladder going to fight each other?

Well that just sucks if that is the case... I was looking forward to playing more and getting into this maybe. Oh well, with some of the new games coming out, I might move on anyway. I don't like being forced to play only how they want it to work. Guess it is just the FPS player in me wanting my mods and variation to add excitement to it all!
